there are so many words we use or connect with in the world of autism! we are cooperative, collaborative, advocates, teachers, adversaries (though that is a word and description that should be worked on to erase!) mentors, you get the picture!! then we need the ability to write effective letters or other forms of communication. and those are just ways of dealing with outsiders and not even the person with the disability!! in teaching our kids, well-let me refine that to in teaching my kid as everyone approaches their child differently as we are all individual, I need to have his attention, each action needs to be acted out and then hand over hand go through that which is being taught-even now at 15 Korey seems not to have all the nuances of a hug down pat-we still get confused between a hug and a kiss-he offers his head for a kiss and his lips for a hug-but we are getting there!! there is no straight line down which we travel-we zigzag and reach hills and valleys and sometimes the mountains are so huge we never think we will get to the other side-we do-sometimes long and hard the road is and sometimes we actually get there after a vigorous run!! the best is that we get it accomplished! yeh!
